During Discover the World of InfoTech, the particpants had a chance for “hands on” experience involving the physical interaction with modern and personal technology that most people will not experience.
Within a single session opportunities exist to play with robotics, music composition with audio sampling and speech synthesis and the surprisingly engaging world of HVAC.
The sessions have always been well-received by both participants and hosts.
The web is rich with all sorts of tools (many of which are free) to help you communicate, work on projects, and just play around. This session will briefly show you some online tools you can use for collaborating with distributed teams. We will cover:
Google documents: for collaborating on projects and creating your own simple online surveys and other cool things you can do with google documents
Online meeting tools: for meeting and discussing projects
Online drawing tools: Software for fixing up your photos and image. Including learning how to use Blender – a free photo editing software.
Do you know what a typical day would be like for a Software Developer or Graphic Artist? We have 3-4 IT professionals setup a display and discuss with a small group of students the details of their job. This session will focus on the culture and work environment that is typical for the highlighted careers.
